5 Ways to Successfully Accomplish your Goals

1. Dream

To complete a project, you must have a dream. What do you desire more than anything else in the world right now? Do you want to lose weight? Write a book? Start a business?

No matter your goal, dream big. I will also encourage you to pick one goal to work on at a time. Don’t overwhelm yourself with several projects. It’s like an old proverb; you eat an elephant one bite at a time.

2. Plan

Once you decide what project or goal you want to complete, sit down and write out detailed and daily steps of how you’re going to get there. Write a concrete action plan and deadlines for yourself for accountability purposes.

You want to set standards that will help you stretch and grow, but also be realistic in knowing what you’re able to do. Once you decide on the project and have the details planned, you will want to do one more thing. You will want to sit down and write out the oppositions that might come up and what your reaction to them will be.

For example, starting this blog was a huge leap of faith for me. I know I want to share with the world how I help to strengthen my home, faith, and family. Once I started receiving traction and felt like I was doing something great, that’s when I received a very angry letter.

If this letter would have arrived right when I started blogging, I would have become scared and stopped writing, shut the blog down, overanalyzed everything and felt like a horrible human being. Well, those fearful feelings haven’t gone away, but I have changed.

Are their tears? Yes. Am I still scared? Of course. Those feelings never go away. But, you have to realize something: the harder you try to do good and the closer you get to greatness, the greater the opposition. The opposition will come, it’s expected. The difference is planning for it and your desired reaction before it happens.

3. Be Active

Do something each day to help you chip away at your goals and project. You will have a few days where life seems overwhelming and crazy. On those days, do what you can, no matter how small. On your better days, take that success and run with it! Do as much as you can.

And no matter what type of day you’re having, be proud of yourself for what you were able to do. And never beat yourself down for how far you still need to go. There are plenty of negative people in the world who will be glad to remind you of your faults and imperfections. You don’t need to be one of them.

4. Have Expectations

Connect with and find an accountability buddy. This could be another person in your line of business, a friend, parent, or spouse. Explain in detail what you’re doing and hoping to accomplish. Then, ask them to check in on you and report back what you’re able to do.

If you want to accomplish your goals, you’re going to have to want it more than anything. You’re going to have to live and breathe this desire for success to the point of possibly frightening you a little. The more you expect from yourself, the more success will come. Now, please don’t misunderstand. You don’t want to banter yourself when you don’t have a good day. That’s when you need to extend grace to yourself.

5. Desire More/Better

Once you feel you’re close to accomplishing your goal, stop and do an analysis of where you are and what you’ve accomplished. Be honest with yourself when you ask “is this where I want to be?” Or, “is this where I was hoping I would be?” If the answer is yes, then great! If the answer is no, then sit down and go back to your action plan. Start with where you are currently, not where you were in the beginning.

It’s important to dream big and hope for better things in your life. When those voices come telling you that you’re not worth it, or you expect too much, don’t listen! When the voices are your own, let them run their course and tell them, “thank you for your input” and then keep going forward.

In order to successfully accomplish your goals, you need to dream big, be ready for opposition, and be willing to fight for your dream. You will never regret any of the projects you complete, but you will regret those things you chose not to do.
