Easy 3-Ingredient Homemade Shower Discs
- 1 cup of baking soda
- 1/2 cup and 2 Tablespoons of water
- 5 drops of essential oil*
* I recommend the following essential oils as possibilities: rosemary, eucalyptus, peppermint, lavender, or frankincense. It’s personal preference if you would like to use one or a combination of the essential oils.
As a side note, my essential oil recipe for these homemade shower discs include 5 drops of lavender for the middle and 5 on top, plus three drops of peppermint for the top of the disc (the instructions will explain further on where to add the essential oil).
You will also need some “foil baking cups” (think cupcakes). They’re amazing and will make your life so much easier if you use them when you make these discs.
It’s important to note that this recipe makes 3 large (or 6 small) shower discs.
The first thing you will want to do is to combine the baking soda and the water together in a large mixing bowl. Stir well.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Fill a foil baking cup 1/3 with the mixture. Add a few drops of your essential oils (between 3 and 5 drops will do) and then fill the remainder of the muffin liner with the baking soda mixture another 1/3 full (leaving room at the top).
Bake at 350 F for 20 minutes.
Remove the discs from the oven and set aside to cool down. Once the discs are at room temperature, add 3 more drops (per essential oil) to the top of the disc.
Remove the muffin liner and store the discs in either a plastic bag or another airtight container (I love using a wide-mouth mason jar. They stack perfectly on top of each other.)
You will want to keep your homemade shower discs in a dry, cool place away from moisture.
When you’re ready to use the disc, simply start your shower and place it in your tub near the drain (or close to where you will be standing).
It’s perfectly fine if the water hits the disc, the purpose of the disc is for it to react with the water and release the scents you chose (the lavender, peppermint, etc).
