We all love vacations. I can’t think of a single person who doesn’t want to get away, let their hair down, rest and relax. Going on vacation is phenomenal, but coming back can be another story. The looming dread of walking through your door doesn’t have to happen to you.
Here are 6 must-do tasks everyone should complete before leaving on their vacation to have a relaxing time when coming home. Yes, this might add a little bit of work along with the packing. But you’re probably already doing these things already. And if you’re not, you won’t regret doing this as it will decrease your stress when you come home.
6 Must-Do Tasks for a Stress-Free Vacation
1. Take Out All Trashes
Let this be the last thing you do before locking the doors behind you. Take out all of your garbage by going through every room in your house. This will not only leave your home smelling fresh and clean while you’re gone, but you won’t have to worry about weird smells or unwanted animals when you come home.
Wash all of your dishes so there is nothing left in your sink when you come home. If you have the energy, not only wash your dishes but put them away. By doing this you will give yourself a “fresh start” in the kitchen. You won’t have to worry about doing the dishes when you first walk in the door.
3. Make Your Bed
Make all of the beds in your home the morning you leave for your vacation. This will allow you to dive into clean and fresh covers when you come home. Your homecoming will be more comfortable as you curl up in your own familiar blankets.
4. Quick Clean
Do a quick run through in every room. Pick up your kid’s toys, do a quick dust over, sweep, and vacuum. You can make this a family event and assign each person a room. This doesn’t have to be a deep clean that will take a ton of time. Think simple. The cleaner you’re able to make your home, the more relaxing and happy you will be when you walk through the door.
Clean out the fridge of any foods that may spoil while you’re gone. Decide if you want to bring the food with you to snack on, give the food to a neighbor, or throw it away. You can also have a “Strange Dinner” night and make a meal out of all the foods that will spoil while you’re gone the night prior to leaving so they don’t go to waste.
A week before you leave on your vacation put a hold on your mail starting the day before you leave on your vacation until a day after you come home. As you put a stop on your mail you won’t have to worry about letters or packages piling up at your home. You can also save your money from hiring someone coming and picking up your mail for you.
As you take out all your garbages, make your bed, do a quick clean through the house, go through the fridge and stop your mail you will have peace of mind while you’re on vacation, and a relaxing homecoming when you return.
