My friend posted on her Facebook profile, “I’m ACTUALLY going to finish the Bible this year. Who wants to read with me?”

Reading the Bible in 1 year is a big commitment!

And while it’s good to read the words of God, it’s even better when we actually understand what we’re reading.

So, I accepted the challenge and joined her in this adventure. But as someone who struggles with consistency, I knew I needed a plan.

And maybe you need a plan, too.

    • An Old Testament plan: Read through the Old Testament in one year, starting from Genesis to Malachi.
    • A New Testament plan: Cover the entire New Testament in one year, beginning with Matthew and ending with Revelation.
    • The Full Bible plan: This plan combines the Old and New Testament readings for a comprehensive one-year journey through God’s word. This plan is more reading-heavy, but it’s a great option for those who want to read the entire Bible in one year.

    Each plan includes:

    • A printable calendar with designated readings for each day
    • Weekly reflection questions to help you engage deeper with the readings
    • Several different reading charts to help you know what chapters you’re reading each day
    • A checklist to track your progress
    • Helpful tips and encouragement to keep you motivated on your journey

And if you’re not sure which plan is right for you, don’t worry! I always recommend starting with the New Testament plan, as it’s a great way to dive right into the heart of Christianity.

Tips for Sticking to Your Bible Reading Plan

    • Set aside a specific time each day for reading: Whether it’s in the morning, before bed, or during your lunch break, make it a habit to read your designated chapters at the same time each day.
    • Find an accountability partner: This could be a friend, family member, or even an online community (you can always send me a DM on Instagram and let me know how your Bible reading’s going). Share your progress and struggles and encourage each other along the way.
    • Don’t get discouraged: It’s normal to miss a day or fall behind on your reading. Don’t let that discourage you and make you give up altogether. Just pick up where you left off and keep going.
    • Mix it up: If you find yourself getting bored with your reading plan, don’t be afraid to switch it up! Fill out another reflection sheet, switch to a different version of the Bible, or even try reading out loud. Find what works best for you and keep things interesting.
    • Remember your why: Why did you start this Bible reading plan in the first place? Keep that reason at the forefront of your mind and let it motivate you to stay consistent.
